Annie Dodge Wauneka was a Navajo woman and the daughter of Chee Dodge, the first chairman of the Navajo Tribal Council. Her father taught Annie the importance of education and politics, and after he passed away she fought for better housing, water sanitation and irrigation on tribal lands. She also helped to lower the infant mortality rate and eradicate tuberculosis on the reservation by improving communication between the council, hospitals and her community.
