Anna Viola Young transformed Arizona’s Pleasant Valley from a dangerous home for two feuding families to a cattle town. Her father was a neutral figure who helped end the bloody Graham-Tewksbury feud. After the area was safe, he established a ranch there. Ola, as she was known, used the central location to petition for a post office, where she became postmistress. The post office was named Young and was open at any time to accommodate ranchers’ lifestyles.
